Lykke Li sounds hot

lykke-liSweden is fucking awesome apparently…..at least at continuously putting out good music.  Lykke Li Zachrisson is an example of this.  Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John makes her beats.  She started her own label to release her stuff, which is pretty cool.  Her last album, Youth Novels, came out about this time last year.  It is a good album especially if you’re in the mood for something a little bit slower.  Her songs lend themselves to being remixed particularly well, which is probably why there are so many of them.  Here are a few of the better ones in my opinion that are helping me nurse out this hangover…..

Lykke Li-little bit (css remix)

Lykke Li-breaking it up (punks jump up remix)

Lykke Li-I’m good, I’m gone (black kids remix)

Lykke Li-I’m good, I’m gone (metronomy remix)

Looking for big win today over ohio state….

afternoon into happy hour playlist

Picture 5

For those working, this should get your heart beating on the commute home and hopefully keep the blood flowing until you get to hh.

You’re going to have the sheltered life with drop (kings of convenience remix) and back down (cut copy remix). New York magazine called it a ‘playful but mysterious little playlist’.  You’ll love it.  And then…the motorcycle (wet clutch short edit) with woman (mstrkrt remix) and night on fire.  I think that’ll follow nicely.

what does it mean calling in sick will melt your face and then my heart still beats for you will wind it down.

Night by Night is a new chromeo single.  enough said.  Second, a Hey Champ remix of moneypenny’s say no.  I like these guys a lot and am expecting big things from them in the future.

Frankmusik?

frank

This guy is a weirdo, but this song/remix is quality. He describes himself as a less annoying Calvin Harris….I don’t know about all that, but he did produce his first album from a room in his grandma’s house with pretty minimal equipment.

Do you like Miles Fisher?

americanpsycho2

If you enjoy Patrick Bateman’s antics or have ever lived below someone who plays Talking Heads “This Must Be the Place” on repeat from 2:30am-8am every night, then you will enjoy this video and song.

His ability to spin the movie into this video is really creative and entertaining. WATCH IT

The song is good as well.

City Calm Down

Picture 2

City Calm Down is an Australian group that reminds me a little bit of 80′s new wave groups like INXS and Depeche Mode. That said…it’s good stuff.

Discovery

discovery-lp-2

This isn’t exactly a new lp (released in July), but since we just started this blog (and I think the album is great) I’m going to mention it. Discovery is a side project for Vampire Weekend’s keyboardist, Rostam Batmanglij, and Ra Ra Riot’s singer, Wes Miles. The song “Can You Discover” is a remake of the first single, “Can You Tell”, off of Ra Ra Riot’s The Rhumb Line, which is also a great album.

Au Revoir Simone remixed

au

Au Revoir Simone is a group of three women from Brooklyn, NY who picked up their name from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. They have some pretty interesting keyboard and syn sounds. These two remixes are older, but I’m still listening to them so I figured I’d share.

jj

jj

Their newest album, jj N 2, spans 9 tracks over about 28 minutes and makes you feel like you’re floating. They have a feeling that is similar to Air France, and they are actually off of the same label coming out of Sweden along with Tough Alliance and the Honeydrips.

Hey Champ

hey-champ

Cold Dust Girl is a track by Hey Champ. They’re a group that hails from Chicago. It’s a catchy electro track with a little bit of a pop feel to it. They don’t have a ton of recorded stuff out, but you can check them out on youtube. They were signed on to Lupe Fiasco’s label recently as well. The video for this song is pretty dope too….Check it out.
